Dance Programs

Dancing is an experience in movement.  Whether accompanied by words, music sounds or silence, bodily movement represents an important means of expression.  For many generations and in many cultures, people have danced socially to entertain one another, communicate their deepest feelings and emotions, and celebrate their humanity.  Although some may think that dance amounts merely to “learning the steps,” they should acknowledge that to become conversant with the ideas and expressions that embody dance, students must develop certain skills.(California State Framework for the Visual and Performing Arts).

Creative movement and Dance

Missy engages students in creative movement through dance, giving them the opportunity to explore and discover new and constructive ways of expressing feelings, thoughts, and ideas. They learn to externalize an internal experience, to communicate non-verbally through movement, and to interact socially in new ways. Through improvisational exercises and structured activities, they will improve physical control, body awareness, listening and participation skills, and access to the imagination. (Grade 4-12)
