Poetry Out Loud 2010-2011

Tuolumne County high school students now have the chance to participate in an excellent national program that celebrates the spoken word through poetry.  If your school or home school program is interested in joining the ranks of POL participants, please contact Central Sierra Arts Council at (209)532-ARTS/2787 or email Board Member B.Z. Central Sierra Arts Council also wishes to thank Front Porch, Inc. for their generous gift to support our community’s 2010-2011 Poetry Out Loud Program.

SCHOOL TEACHERS & ADMINISTRATORS–If you want your students to join in Poetry Out Loud, contact us ASAP.

HOMESCHOOL FAMILIES & PARENTS–If you want your child to participate in this dynamic program, just give us a call.

STUDENTS–You can do this on your own!  Just shoot us an email <bz@centralsierraarts.org> or drop us a note on our Facebook page!

AUGUST--Contact schools, set up teacher meetings and get POL information distributed to schools, families and kids.

SEPTEMBER--Schedule visits to schools and home-school programs to give chats about POL.

OCTOBER–Poetry Recitation Coach Rick Foster starts to work with students to prepare for POL.

DECEMBER–School-Level competitions begin to select each school’s TuolCo POL contestants.

JANUARY–Home School competition will take place.  This will also include any public school students whose schools did not fully participate.

FEBRUARY–Tuolumne County Poetry Out Loud county-level competition will take place.

MARCH–Tuolumne County’s POL first place winner will travel to Sacramento for the State-Level POL competition.

MAY–National Poetry Out Loud Competition will take place in Washington, D.C.

Poetry Out Loud is presented by The National Endowment for the Arts and The Poetry Foundation.  Visit the Poetry Out Loud Website for inspiring resources on the art of poetry writing and recitation.
